Research Description

Prof. Huang's research primarily concentrates on synthetic biology and intracellular transportation. In the field of intracellular transportation, he was the first to report the direct interaction between microtubule- and actin-filament-based transportation systems through their motor proteins, kinesin and myosin. His lab is currently investigating the functions of Kinesin-1, a microtubule-based motor protein, in various cell types and its impact on cellular processes during development and disease.

Notably, Prof. Huang was the first researcher in the greater China region to publish a paper on synthetic biology in Science. In his lab, Prof. Huang develops innovative genetic circuits that regulate gene expression and cell-cell communication. He has collaborated with colleagues to design a genetic circuit capable of controlling cell distribution and function in space and time, which can be used to study the formation and regulation of biological structures. Furthermore, he has engineered interactions among multiple cell types to generate intricate biological structures.

Currently, Prof. Huang's lab employs a synthetic biology approach to create novel vaccines for infectious diseases and cancer treatments. In one of their projects, the Huang Lab programmed bacteria as a tumor therapeutic drug that can effectively suppress cancer metastasis.
